Who are these NVQs for?

The EDI Level 2 NVQ in Driving Goods Vehicles is suitable for all drivers who hold a vocational licence. It includes competencies in pre-driving checks (including the use of tachographs), monitoring the loading of goods and safe and competent driving.

Candidates are allowed to work towards units of the qualification whilst developing the knowledge and skills required for the relevant statutory driving test and license. This means that it is not necessary to hold an appropriate full license above a Category B (car and light van), in order to start working towards their qualification.

What is the structure of these NVQs?

To achieve a full Level 2 NVQ, candidates must achieve seven mandatory units. There are two additional units available to candidates who have the opportunity to demonstrate competence in these areas.

Mandatory Units

1 Monitoring the loading of the vehicle by others
2 Completing pre-driving preparations
3 Maintaining the safety and the security of the load, self and property
4 Maintaining awareness of driving conditions
5 Operating the vehicle systems  
6 Driving the vehicle on public roads
7 Driving the vehicle in restricted places

Additional Units

8 Unloading the vehicle
9 Coupling and uncoupling the vehicle
