Who are these NVQs for?

The EDI Level 2 in Plant Operations is suitable for those that operate a wide range of plant machinery (including Forklift Truck) and activities from pedestrian operated pallet trucks to large excavation equipment.

What is the structure of these NVQs?

To achieve a full Level 2 NVQ in Plant Operations you must complete 4 / 5 units (depending on occupational route)

Mandatory Units

Unit 1 Conform to general workplace safety
Unit 2 Conform to efficient work practices
Unit 3 Prepare plant or machinery for operational performance

ALL candidates must complete the mandatory units to succeed in achieving an NVQ, the choice of optional units will then allow candidates to specialise in their chosen area.

Occupational Routes (Choose One)

Plant Operator Route (One unit from the following required)

Unit 4 Operate plant or machinery to lift and transfer loads
Unit 5 Operate plant or machinery to extract
Unit 6 Operate plant or machinery to excavate
Unit 7 Operate plant or machinery to construct and form
Unit 8 Operate plant or machinery to receive and transport loads
Unit 9 Operate plant and machinery for accessing
Unit 10 Operate plant or machinery to lay and distribute
Unit 11 Operate plant or machinery to compact
Unit 12 Operate plant or machinery to process

Slinger Signaller / Loader Securer Route (Both units required)

Unit 13 Direct and guide the movement of plant or machinery
Unit 14 Arrange and secure loads

Road Rail Route (One unit from the plant operator route plus the following units required)

Unit 15 Operate road rail plant

Attachments Route (One unit from the plant operator route plus the following unit required)

Unit 16 Operate ancillary equipment

Additional Units (Not compulsory)

Unit 17 Move and handle resources
Unit 18 Operate specialised powered tools and equipment
Unit 19 Set out secondary dimensional work control
Unit 20 Slinging and signalling the movement of loads
Unit 21 Plant operations from a barge
Unit 22 Erect and dismantle plant (Cranes and Rigs)
